ITV catch-up TV application – Android bound for UK users?

Submitted by on June 10, 2010 – 12:57 pmNo Comment

While the BBC iPlayer is available as a browser-based application only, ITV (channel 3 for the old school) is apparently in talks with Apple, Blackberry and Google, to bring a proper catch-up application to mobile platforms.

So what does this mean? Well, put simply, you should be able to download the garbage that ITV spits out using the dedicated application and watch it wherever you so please – within the assumed time-frame of course, as per most ‘on-demand’ services. The current browser-based solutions require that you stay connected while you watch your TV show – which almost defeats the point of mobile viewing and eats up precious mobile data-plan allowances.

What’s the catch? Well, the application is not likely to be free, incurring a one-off payment and could well be ad-supported, but details are still unclear. ITV are hoping for a release to respective app-stores by September this year, just in time for another series of ‘The X Factor’.

Marvellous.
